This converted schoolhouse is on the rural outskirts of Collingwood, Ontario, probably from the mid 1800s, although I haven’t been able to find information on it yet. a beautiful old building and doors. Interesting comment about separate doors for girls and boys…would the schoolhouse have a division within to keep them apart as well, do you know?

Hi dennyho. No, I don’t think they were separated inside the classroom, although I don’t know for sure. I think it had more to do with the Victorian mores of giving each gender their own cloakroom to disrobe from the outdoors. Silly stuff but so interesting.
