Hermitage is a French wine Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée in the northern Rhône region. Legend has it that a knight named Gaspard de Stérimberg returned from the Crusades in 1224 and took refuge from the world on top of a hill as a hermit. Soon joined by others, a community was formed and began to plant vines, creating these stunning terraces.
