Boys in the Band

In the 1940s and ’50s, Baranger Studio of South Pasadena, California, created shop-window motion displays for stores, like this one replicating a toy soldier marching band. It’s amazing to see the amount of artistry that went into what was essentially a device to attract the attention of passersby. The band is one of five rare Baranger motion displays offered in a recent Noel Barrett auction.
